With my really busy and hectic lifestyle a vacation it is always a must. Even if its just to be out for a few days outside of work/blog etc. I recently went to Las Terrenas, one of my favorite beach towns in the Dominican Republic. I stayed in this amazing modern villa, located 10 min away from the beach, on a private hill. I spent time getting some needed R&R, hanging by the pool with a sangria in my hand with my best friend Margaret. I call this the perfect Caribbean beach getaway weekend.
There’s a sexiness that comes from showing off some skin, and showing a tan. Channeling an 80’s vibe (and not a peasant look), the Off-the-shoulder cut is a spring fashion trend will see around. I like the idea of flowy off-the-shoulder crop tops.Proportion is key when wearing this trend. Think of pairing that flowy top with a skinny distressed jeans or a high-waist pencil skirt, I would also stay away from tops with big prints but that’s my minimalist personal style talking.
I’m having a lot of fun drawing fashion illustrations for these spring trends and selecting my favorite picks. Also check out my post (and illustration) on how to wear head-to-toe White (here), and let me know, how you would wear this trend?
With the start of spring I wanted to talk about some of the fashion trends for this season. One that I’m particularly loving is the white on white ensembles, I’m talking about wearing head to toe all-blanc. Besides the fact that wearing all white can be a hassle, trying to avoid getting any unruly spills on you, It’s a minimal look that can look very classy easily.
To wear it, as a simple rule I would keep my whites in the same tones, meaning don’t wear an ivory white with a super bright cool white as one of them is bound to look bleached out or worst… dirty. Also unless it’s a crisp (or not) matching suit, I would play with textures, matching a lace dress with a leather jacket or a simple white vest.
As for accessories, go with classics all nude or black… and if you are feeling adventurous bring out that red bag.
See below a few of my picks!
A trench coat is one of those pieces that every girl needs in her closet, It’s a spring and fall basic that works for any weather and the cut is so classic that with just a simple outfit it would make you look fashionable.
The trench coat was first developed as an all weather coat for British and French soldiers during the 1900’s by Burberry and up until this day Burberry makes one of the most coveted trenches. Usually a typical trench is double breasted and is made in a tan or khaki color.
I bought my trench coat from Uniqlo a few years ago I opted for a short version so I could use it in Miami. As we usually don’t get a real winter down here it was a good option to wear when its raining or the temperature drops a few degrees. I wanted to give a little extra edge to this outfit and wore a black leather crop top layered over a soft white t-shirt.

A few days ago I was at a fashion shoot for a major magazine, where many other fashion bloggers from Miami where the models. We had to style ourselves with Fall outfits, and one of the things I noticed is that at least 85% of the girls (I make up statistics!) were wearing hats. Floppy hats, large brimmed, small fedoras… in black, gray, blue, tan even red…etc.. In any shape or form hats seem to be a common denominator of what the street style for Fall holds. And of course I got inspired and drew a fashion illustration of a girl with a hat and I went online and searched for my favorite ones.
Summer is all about fun, the ease of not worrying too much and of course hitting the beach. When summer comes around I default to minimum make up (if any), summer dresses and sandals, but as any fashion girl I always want to look well put. A perfect pair of sunnies can uplift my mood and my outfit. Lately I have been coveting anything oversized, to cover the lack of makeup. With odd shapes that have a retro feel and colorful because for summer black or brown can be a little boring.
The temperatures have started rising in Miami and summer is here, and to beat this heat sometimes all you need is a comfortable dress, in the likes of an oversized button down shirt. A few weeks ago for a bloggers brunch at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami I wore a beige tone shirtdress that has a string waist to give it some form, if it a more loose shirt dress I would say to belt it, to not look like a big blob. I wore it with bright shoes and some layered simple necklaces, making this a simple but pull together look.

There is a moment in every girl’s life that we have to make hard decisions in this case I’m talking about that moment when you have to choose your mani color for the week. Yes, I know I’m being overly dramatic, but sometimes being stuck with a color you don’t like can bring your mood down. For my summer nails I have been looking at shades of blues, especially in pastel tones. They really match with anything, kind of like wearing a pair of jeans it looks good with any outfit. (I’m pretty sure I read this somewhere). Check out my blue picks for a perfect summer look.
Being a fashion girl I am not afraid to try out trends. As you know from my last post I have been coveting several jumpsuits and then I saw this number from bebe. My personal style is a bit on the safe side and even when venturing on wearing pieces like a jumpsuit I prefer to stick to classic shapes like the sweetheart top and more neutral colors like black. I love this jumpsuit so much because it’s comfy and it makes me look put together even with my hair up on a side bun/braid. I just have to add heels and a nice clutch wrislet.

Another spring trend that I have been following is the jumpsuit. This one piece pant and top combo has been around for a while, and you may think of a 70’s glam revival but with a modern feel. A few musts to get the look from the runway: Don’t be afraid of bold colors (think bright bright red). Also you may want to break it up to give it some scale with simple accessories like a thin metal belt or a cropped jacket. Don’t be afraid or prints. And as always go for shapes that flatter your body. If you are tall go ahead and try the more relax styles, if you are shorter maybe a fitted top with a tapered leg.
